Jim is considered the old man of the company with over 30 years of anesthesia practice. After graduating from Hampden Academy, Jim obtained his Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering and a BS in Biology from the University of Maine. He obtained his diploma in Nursing in 1975 and his diploma in Anesthesia in 1981 (when they actually paid students to go to anesthesia school). In 1993 he graduated from Kansas University Medical Center outreach program with a M.S. in Nurse Anesthesia.

Although Eastern Maine Medical Center has been Jim’s primary anesthesia practice site since 1981, he has managed to work at almost every hospital and most of the clinics located in Maine. He currently has privileges at eight facilities in Maine. Jim has always been very involved with Nurse Anesthesia education as the Assistant Director of the EMMC School of Anesthesia from 1991-1996 and is still currently an Associate Professor at the University of New England. He has lectured extensively to the State and New England Association of Nurse Anesthetist and other medical associations. Jim for over 20 years taught ACLS, BLS, PALS and NALS. Additionally, he is one of only a few non physicians to have taken and taught ATLS.

One of the original founders of Nurse Anesthesia of Maine, Jim is the current Vice President/Treasurer and a Board Member. He has also served on the Maine Association of Nurse Anesthetist Board of Directors and has held the post of By-Laws Chair for a couple of decades.

In his spare time, Jim enjoys hiking, kayaking, traveling, and on cold rainy days working on his stamp collection. He is currently writing a book about the postal history of Hampden, Maine. Jim loves working for the kids. He has been the past president of the Hermon Little League, the Glenburn Little League, and tournament director for numerous Little League playoffs. For many years you could find Jim umpiring a baseball game or refereeing a basketball game. He has even been honored by Little League to umpire many of the Regional Little League Playoff Tournaments in both baseball and softball as far away as New Jersey.

You can usually find Jim at his home in Hampden with his bride Patsy enjoying the grandkids.
