In February of 2003, nine Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA); David Hessert, James Husson, Susan DeCarlo, Jenny Rullo, Nancy Gause, Sandy Serpell, Paul Healey, Gary Moretti, and Barbara Snow began meeting to formulate a CRNA owned-and-operated Anesthesia Corporation. The nine founders had over 150 years of combined anesthesia experience and were facing an uncertain future. Fortunately one CRNA, David Hessert, had a lot of experience with business management. Thus with a lot of hard work and many long meetings by the nine and using consultation and education by local businessmen, lawyers, and accountants, Nurse Anesthesia of Maine, LLC (NAMe) was incorporated on April 15th, 2003. The first and only CRNA-owned and operated company offering anesthesia services in the great state of Maine.

The nine founding members established Nurse Anesthesia of Maine with the premise that NAMe would always be owned and operated by CRNAs. Their mission is: To provide excellent and compassionate anesthesia care for our neighbors in times of need while fostering collaborative relationships with physicians, hospitals, and the communities we serve. NAMe is based on Core Values of Uncompromising Quality, Integrity, Teamwork/Mutual Support, Productivity, the Pursuit of Excellence, Professionalism and Maintaining a Sense of Humor. These values have served them well over their first decade of professional anesthesia practice and continue to guide them on their journey.

NAMe started their clinical anesthesia services on August 1, 2003; joined by three employed CRNAs and Lynne Veinote, their Office Manager, providing services exclusively to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Since that time, they have grown from twelve anesthetists to over fifty employees including forty-six regular CRNAs, eight Per Diem anesthetists, and four wonderful professionals in the office supporting their business. NAMe currently provides excellent anesthesia services to eighteen clients: Eastern Maine Medical Center, five regional Hospitals, and five Ambulatory Surgery Centers or Clinics. They also provide vacation relief or emergency nurse anesthesia services to an additional six Hospitals and Ambulatory Surgery Centers.
