Susan DeCarlo-Piccirillo

Sue Decarlo

Susan graduated with an MS from Columbia University in 1985, DNP Rush University, Chicago. She has served as program director for the EMMC School of Nurse Anesthesia, the head for EMMC anesthesia department, and chief nurse anesthetist for the Spectrum Medical Group.

She is currently clinical coordinator for the University of New England, Biddeford, ME, where she is also an academic instructor of anesthesia.

James graduated with honors from the University of Kansas Medical Center, where he received his master of science degree in anesthesia. He earned his CRNA diploma from Eastern Maine Medical Center School of Nurse Anesthesia and his RN diploma from EMMC School of Nursing.

David Hessert
David Hessert

David has lived in the Bangor area all his life, except during his ten-year stint with the Air Force. He graduated from the University of Southern Maine in 1979, from the Air Force Squadron Officers School in 1984, and from the Air Force Nursing Service Management School in 1986.

In 1993, he earned his master of science degree in nursing anesthesia from the University of New England, where he is an associate professor serving on the clinical faculty. David worked as chief anesthetist for Spectrum Medical Group and has been the chief CRNA for Eastern Maine Medical Center since 2003. He also serves his professional colleagues as a member of the board of directors of the Maine Association of Nurse Anesthetists.

Paul Healey
Paul Healey

Paul graduated with his nursing degree from Auburn School of Nursing, Cambridge, MA and then worked for seven years at Boston City Hospital.

He received his CRNA education at EMMC School of Nurse Anesthesia from 1984-86 and developed special interest in chest and vascular anesthesia.

Paul Schneider

Paul received his BSN from Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon in 1987 and worked nearly 14 years at Legacy Emanuel Hospital, Portland, Oregon, in the field of trauma nursing and coordination.  In 2004 he came to Maine from his lifelong home of Oregon after earning his Master of Anesthesiology degree from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington.

Paul is credentialed at many of NAMe's contracted facilities and is Chief Anesthetist at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital.  He is very active with the Maine Association of Nurse Anesthetists acting on many committees, holding committee chairmanships, and serving as a board member.  He has held the President-elect and  President positions.  Paul became a member of Nurse Anesthesia of Maine, LLC, on January 1, 2013.


Kathy Maxwell

Kathy graduated from the University of Maine with her BSN degree. She worked both at Penobscot Valley Hospital as a Nurse Manager and Eastern Maine Medical Center in the NICU before attending the University of New England and graduating from the Nurse Anesthesia program in 2003.

Kathy has worked for NAMe since 2004. She has been the Chief Nurse Anesthetist for Penobscot Valley Hospital and is now the Chief Nurse Anesthetist for Eastern Maine Medical Center. She is also the Director of Human Resources for NAMe. Kathy has been an owner since 2013.
